Review of Baxter's Bush Tomato Cherry

I tried a new variety of cherry tomato this year.  After last year's completely out-of-bounds Sweet 100 tomato plant, I was excited to find a determinate cherry tomato variety.  I haven't been disappointed!  Here is a good explanation of determinate/indeterminate tomatoes. This is a well behaved tomato, at this point it is just about 4 feet tall and producing abundant clusters of ripening large cherry tomatoes.  This makes it suitable for containers and smaller spaces.  Because I plant more intensively,  I did use a cage around it.

The flavor is more tomato-y and less sweet than other cherry varieties like the Sweet 100 or Sungold.  Baxter's bush cherry tomato is also larger and sturdier and I have yet to find any that crack and split, unlike the Sweet 100 or Sungold that seem to split just by looking at them.  My experience is that it is a mid-season tomato, not early.  I found Baxter's Bush Cherry Tomato seed in the Burpee racks, though I don't recall what store.  It is labeled as organic and also available on their website.  Baxter's Bush Cherry tomato has a deserved spot in the garden, although I miss the ultra-sweetness of a typical cherry tomato.
